Everyone is talking about the growth of the on demand business economy. The get it when you want it products and services economy.
I’ve been a follower of Mary Meeker industry trends reports for years. Lately I've really been thinking a lot about this on demand business model Mary covers and the impact it is having on the photography market and what our future will look like.
The on-demand economy is certainly changing business as we know it. For example, up 49% over last year Get-it-when-you-want-it products and services increased from about 40 million in 2017 to 56 million in 2018. Online marketplaces are the most popular, followed by transportation, housing, food delivery and health/beauty. Online marketplace being the most popular followed by transportation (Uber and Lyft), housing food delivery, postmates, etc…
On demand is in demand, but what does this mean for photography market? The growth in this segment has probably already had more of an impact than you think and is gaining momentum every day. One of the biggest changes I'm seeing in the Photography market is the emergence of numerous Apps that make booking a photographer super easy… just like booking an Uber.
